“Hay voces que niegan la crisis climática”
Sostuvo la decana de FAUBA, Adriana Rodríguez durante la inauguración de las primeras jornadas ambientales de la Universidad, en la Facultad de Agronomía. Junto al rector Ricardo Gelpi y autoridades de la UBA dialogó sobre los efectos de la actividad humana en el ambiente y visibilizó los aportes en materia ambiental que realiza la UBA.
El 5 de junio, en el Día Internacional del Ambiente, el Programa Interdisciplinario de Educación Ambiental (PIEA) de la Universidad de Buenos Aires organizó las primeras jornadas ambientales de la UBA. Participó el rector Ricardo Gelpi, decanos y decanas de la Universidad, graduados, docentes, nodocentes y estudiantes de grado y de escuelas medias.
“Todos los integrantes del Programa, referentes de cada unidad académica de la UBA, decidimos organizar una jornada en la que nos encontremos, nos conozcamos, interactuemos y que visibilicemos lo importante que hace nuestra Universidad referida a la investigación, al estudio, a la enseñanza de cuestiones ambientales. Y esto cobra una importancia particular en este contexto en el que aparecen voces que niegan que haya algún efecto de la actividad humana sobre el ambiente”, afirmó Adriana Rodríguez, decana de FAUBA y coordinadora del PIEA.
Por su parte, el rector Gelpi expresó: “Para la UBA es tremendamente importante trabajar en este tema. Hace poco la OMS incluyó a la contaminación del ambiente como un factor de riesgo cardíaco. Nosotros sabemos que los riesgos cardíacos, hasta hace poco, eran diabetes, obesidad, hipertensión, sedentarismo. Hoy está demostrado que la contaminación ambiental contribuye a aumentar la cantidad y el tamaño de los infartos del corazón. Aunque parezca mentira, hay gobiernos, hay gente, hay científicos que niegan el problema ambiental”.
En la inauguración, Adriana Rodríguez realizó una exposición sobre la crisis climática y el rol de la universidad. “Los cambios que ocurren en el ambiente global afectan la estructura y el funcionamiento de los ecosistemas y ponen en peligro o limitan la capacidad del planeta de sostener la vida. Y estos cambios son producidos por la actividad humana. Una de las consecuencias es la pérdida de biodiversidad que afecta tanto a los sistemas terrestres como a los sistemas acuáticos”, explicó.
En esta línea, la decana señaló que hay innumerables trabajos científicos en el mundo que dan cuenta del impacto de la actividad humana sobre los procesos ambientales. “Claramente el impacto ambiental no es una apreciación subjetiva”, dijo.
Además, manifestó que los problemas ambientales deben ser abordados de forma interdisciplinaria y que, dentro de la Universidad, la educación ambiental, la gestión ambiental y la generación de conocimiento son esenciales.
“Toda la comunidad de nuestra universidad queremos ser agentes de transformación buscando un futuro más sostenible. Y ese compromiso implica un impacto material y simbólico. Material porque generamos conocimiento, porque generamos trabajos, porque generamos soluciones tecnológicas. Esa es la buena noticia, a pesar de que parece que todo va en declive, la comunidad científica genera alternativas de producción, de desarrollo sustentable para mitigar o para balancear estos efectos negativos del impacto climático”, expresó Rodríguez.
Para cerrar el evento, el Rector y la decana destacaron que el Consejo Superior aprobara por unanimidad la creación del Área de Ciencias Ambientales del Doctorado de la Universidad de Buenos Aires, y que la UBA haya escalado 24 posiciones en el Ranking QS Global.
“En este contexto donde se nos hace tan difícil seguir adelante con la investigación, con el desarrollo tecnológico; donde el financiamiento para estas actividades está prácticamente paralizado; donde los salarios de los investigadores, los docentes, los nodocentes, los científicos está pauperizado, nuestra universidad sigue apostando por la excelencia académica, sigue apostando por el desarrollo, por la investigación y por brindarle estos productos y generar este compromiso con nuestra sociedad”, concluyó Rodríguez.
“Creo que el hecho de que la UBA se ocupe de temas como la contaminación, contribuye a posicionarse en los rankings. Porque eso es calidad y además abre la puerta para conseguir subsidios a nivel mundial”, finalizó Gelpi.
Durante las primeras jornadas ambientales de la UBA se compartieron experiencias de gestión, se realizaron mesas de diálogo, proyecciones y recorridas por el predio. Además, se instaló una Feria Ambiental con stands y posters sobre residuos, reciclaje y ciencia ciudadana; humedales; Sistema Participativo de Garantías; viveros comunitarios; control biológico de vectores de enfermedades con peces nativos; Centro de Información Agroclimática y Ambiental; roedores urbanos; derecho y acceso al agua, y diversos proyectos de extensión universitaria.
